Final Poppy Stage (pods)

I planted some poppies and waited until they reached the last visible stage. Then I waited 8 more [real life] days and then harvested them. The result was that I harvested only 16% poppy pods, and the rest were all flowers. Am I doing something wrong, or is this normal? Is there a way to tell when you should harvest? Should I just wait an entire month, or will some never reach the final stage?

From what I've gathered from others, this is normal. I've had slightly higher numbers myself, but I'm not the dedicated farmer I've been in the past, and so I maybe be experiencing a lucky streak due to low sample size. Also, I never kept track previously, and it certainly seemed like it was higher last world when I was managing my own farms.

Yeah, maximum percentage last world seemed to be about 24-25% but more commonly around the 20% mark for the crops I waited a full 2 weeks post ready stage.

In my experience the yields from poppies always seem to vary.

You can wait a few days for the highest percent chance on crops that will produce, but some will never yield pods no matter how long you wait. I know people who used to wait 9 real-life days between harvesting their poppies, but that might be overkill.

According to the Wiki it takes a minimum of 24 real-life hours after hitting stage 5 for crops to start entering a 'secret stage 6'. So I would probably wait 2-3 extra days after hitting stage 5 before harvesting them.

When I was running my own farm, I had two groups of poppies. The first group was generally for quality and flowers, the second was for opium production. I'd harvest the second around 4-7 days, usually every second or third poppy harvest. It depended mostly on if I 'needed' opium or not.
