Fish have a static preference of tackle. If you find a 100% catch combo for a fish, it will stay that way at least for the world you found it in. Many fish don't care much about which line or hook you use, but the rarer the fish type the pickier they tend to get. Any of the options are interchangeable, so if a fish likes flax and hide straps you can use either in the tackle set. Some fish get 100% catch rate with some lures (many fish give 100% on rock lobster) but more difficult to craft hooks/lures can often boost the bite chance.

Maybe I didn't emphasize it enough? When I originally wrote the guide I didn't think it worked that way. Between potjeh's original suggestion and my testing this world I agree 100% that tackle combo can massively improve bite chance. I've tried editing it to catch all incorrect references, but I usually miss something.

Hello. Is that list of favorite fish lures still actually for 12W?

With the way the world generation works and the fishing setup is done, as I understand it, "best" can change a bit each world. Sevenless's list and the wiki are good starting points, but don't be surprised if for your specific location, another combination works better, or if what is listed doesn't even work at all.

Alright here's a necro but there was a lot of noobs and returning players (also likely noobs like myself) lately and world end is unknown so here's my vague findings for w13 fish, that might help some other poor bastard doing fisherman credo to get to that nomad bag space. These were just combos I got for my specific quests, missed a lot of fish for sure, and also I considered a % as low as 40% worth marking down, obligatory "depends on location" comment and also the quality of my fishing equipment varied a lot. A lot of fish had low % in all kinds of equipment, but sometimes would shoot up when swapping the lines out specifically, and despite being similar qualities, a lot of fish seemed to hate anything but my metal hooks. also thanks jorbtar I hate it

Freshwater
Tench - Woodsman's Fishline, Metal Hook, Pinecone Plug
Brill - Macabre Fishline, Metal Hook, Copper Comet
Ruffe - Macabre Fishline, Metal Hook, Copper Comet
Pike - Woodsman's Fishline, Bone Hook, Copper Comet
Trout - Woodsman's Fishline, Metal Hook, Feather Fly
Asp - Tanner's Fishline, Metal Hook, Rock Lobster or Copper Comet
Catfish - Tanner's or Farmer's Fishline, Metal Hook, Feather Fly
Ide - Macabre Fishline, Metal Hook, Feather Fly
Smelt - Woodsman's Fishline, Metal Hook, Feather Fly
Chub - Woodsman's Fishline, Metal Hook, Feather Fly
Lavaret - Shepherd's Fishline, Metal Hook, Copper Comet
Grayling - Shepherd's Fishline, Bone Hook, Copper Comet
Bream - Tanner's Fishline, Metal Hook, Feather Fly
Zope - Shepherd's Fishline, Metal Hook, Copper Comet

Ocean
Haddock - Shepherd's Fishline, Bone Hook, Copper Comet
Pomfret - Shepherd's Fishline, Metal Hook, Woodfish
Mullet - Bushcraft Fishline, Metal Hook, Woodfish
Whiting - Tanner's Fishline, Chitin Hook, Feather Fly

Cave
Abyss Gazer - Woodsman's Fishline, Metal Hook, Feather Fly

anyways good luck fishing is a nightmare

Quality softcaps the quality of the fish you receive, and line/hook/lure has an impact on losing tackle. Metal hooks might be a bit rough for noobs to pump out, but if you're willing to go through pain chitin hooks are actually pretty good in the very early days if you're trying to power through fishing.

Thanks for doing the research :) It all got scrambled with specific lines being added and I was past wanting to fish this world by then.

I caught 10 or so Sturgeons from a river using Earthworms as bait.

Last world I apparently had the best luck for sturgeon in a river with a metal hook and entrails. This world, who knows?
