How do I download/start the game?

I clicked the "Play" and it downloaded a file called "autohaven" type JAR.
Any instructions?

You just click it to launch the client.

I would recommend a modified client though that will give you more options and quality of life features that's more suitable for a beginner, like the Amber client.

You need to have Java installed ... which runs JAR files

to download Java 8 follow the url in my signature

First, download it.
Then make sure that you have java 8 in use.
Execute

java -jar autohaven.jar

in the directory that you downloaded it to.

What is your system? What package of java is installed? Game is currently having trouble with Java 11.
Try uninstall java, install java 8, and run this client: viewtopic.php?f=49&t=40400

Do you have a stand alone graphics card? If not then you probably won't be able to run it no matter what
