On a related note so we don't have to make a new thread, if someone chops down our original quest giver and we haven't greeted them yet, do we get a new random quest? Wiki doesn't say.
Tedium is a feature.

Formerly known as DaMaGe. Been playing on and off since World 3 in 2010, but my old account no longer functions.

To be precise, you need Hearth Magic and at least 10k LP earned. It can also take some time to get that first quest to come in.

If you have no quests*, yes, you will always get a "Whisper on the wind," though it can take longer the more quests completed. You can jump this timer and use the "Commune with Nature" magic to get a quest at any time. (Personal recommendation: if you have no quests and have done no quests, just wait. You shouldn't have to wait long, usually less than 15-20 minutes.)

*credo quests don't count for this.
