salmon issue

I got a quest to eat a roast salmon filet as my first fishing credo, and I've fished up over 50 fish with not a single salmon. I already tried swimming up and down the rivers, using different bait, using bait the wiki says to use, and fishing in every node possible. I'm beginning to believe salmon might be seasonal, but it doesn't say that anywhere on the wiki. Is it seasonal or am I just unlucky?

Just unlucky, can confirm I've fished up salmon in multiple places and even from the ocean. Zander was the one giving me a headache after poking around dozens of nodes without seeing it.

tons of salmon right by me, all i catch there is ruffe, salmon, asp, and pike. taproot, bone hook, entrails. just try a different area.
