Eely important question (pun warning)

Postby Zepar72 » Mon Mar 16, 2020 3:25 pm

Any advice how to catch eels with primitive rod? I've caught almost every single fish, just except for this one. Tried both ocean and sweet water, lakes and rivers . . Got catfishes, sturgeons, burbons but no eel :< .

Might just have to build a boat and try fishing somewhere further away than your normal spot, if you haven't tried it already. You can catch different fish in different areas!

For eel I have luck with cattail fibers, bone hook, and feather fly. If you can get 20 will and 20 survival then you can see double fishes I think, this is very useful for find more uncommon fish.

Number of fish seen goes up the higher surv and will goes. This definitely helps to actually find what fish might be there. A person can then try up different tackle combinations to try to maximize the fish they want.

I think last world I was using rock lobsters, flax fibers, and bone or metal hooks for eel. This can vary from location to location. There's some fancy math under this, I'm sure.

Casting rodding for specific fish is really frustrating with low will/surv because you can only see the lowest fish catch rate. Using the best tackle combo is, oddly, sometimes a bad thing. I understand the reason for the change, but you need so much will/surv score to properly use a rod that it's useless during the time you want it most. Of course, the flipside is I caught 140 perch in about 30 minutes at the cost of 10 chicken's worth of feathers.

Only suggestion I have is to use one of the suggested tackle combos and keep praying. Drop your line every 10 tiles, the nodes can be very small when in the off time/moon phase.

eel(rare, ocean&fresh): cattail/hide, bone, lobster

This is what I use, although I've noticed that the low "tier" lures lower the bite
