Nidbanes, Scents, and outlawed questions

Postby Willberfollower » Tue Mar 24, 2020 11:40 am

So I’ve been reading up and am still confused about some features (mainly nidbanes). Say I Murdered some kid (in the name of justice) and my base is in a palisade. The kid is Part of a village with endless resources.

First, how many nidbanes could be summoned against me. obviously if there’s too many I would die.

Second, any tips on not getting killed by nidbanes?

Third, outlawed on the wiki states it lasts for the period of the scent. A murder scent lasts 9 days and it says as a outlaw I can’t log off. Obviously I’m not going to play for 9 days so if I do log off can the nidbanes attack me while I’m logged off and outlawed?

Forth, the Wiki states and I quote, If Nidbane was attacked by anyone except his the target he will instantly attack his target that he was sent for vengeance, even if the target offline.
Does that mean someone can summon a nidbane then attack it so that it instantly teleports to me and attacks my character even if I’m logged off?

Fifth, just to clearify you can’t murder players with rage unless they have murder?

Thanks for reading! Any help on these matters will be highly appreciated.
Thank You!

However many Heinous crimes you commited. If you only murdered him, one. If you stole all his stuff, they can send one for every theft scent. The nidbanes would be very weak though so it's unlikely they'd do so. Keep in mind you could of course pick up his corpse, hearth home, and then steal all his junk, with the theft scents then being safe inside your base where nobody can get them. Only downside is that the guy you killed can stay on the death screen, which stays on his character, and then when you hearth home he'll get to see your whole base.

I'm not sure, i've never had personal experience with being attacked by nidbanes.

When the nidbane arrives to you it will wait for 24 hours. If you login in that time, you'll awake to see the spectre standing above you. The moment you perform any action, such as moving, it will attack. If you don't login in those 24 hours, then it will simply attack and murder you while you're offline, meaning a free death.

I have no idea what this means, but i'm 99% sure it's entirely false. Attacking a nidbane that is currently sitting over his prey will cause him to attack his prey. I don't know what would happen if you attacked a nidbane currently travelling towards his prey, but i'm very very sure it's not that.

It's possible to murder anybody if you're in a murderous rage and deal massive HHP damage while their HHP is low. Other than that, the only other way to murder someone is for both of them to have murder, one to enter a murderous rage, and the other to KO said guy in a murderous rage. The guy in the murderous rage will be KOed but combat will not stop and the other guy can continue smacking him until he dies. See my post here for a better explanation. viewtopic.php?f=42&t=67612

Good luck, the Hearthlands needs some justice right about now!
Total misplay.

There is a limit to the number that can be sent against one person at a time. This is to prevent mass spamming someone.

They can be cheesed much in the same way you can cheese other animals. Best suggestion is to use a house with stairs. It is considered an exploit, but one that hasn't been remedied yet.

Your character doesn't leave the game world if you do log off. Make sure you go somewhere safe and can't be screwed with. The wiki could be better worded here.

There has been changes to how this works to prevent some common abuses and exploits, but I'd have to dig through old patch notes on it to be sure of any specificc answers. Otherwise, yes, this is how it works in general. FYI, the nidbane cannot be attacked by anyone for the first 24 hours of its existence, so you always have that buffer there to prepare.

You can kill anyone at any time if you KO them with low HHP (so that the concussion is the killing blow), with or without Rage or Murder. The difference is if you are allowed to enter or remain engaged in combat after the person is KO'd.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Are nidbanes even worth the effort? Even with multiple nidbanes sent at the same time I can imagine the target could just attack and pick them one by one. Without any damage if he's not a terrible fighter. Or am I missing something?

Nidbanes are completely useless, and as of last world don't even kill their target. The worst someones looking at from a nidbane is a concussion and maybe a few nidburns. They're also easy to deal with. They're absolutely not worth the effort and they really aren't worth worrying about.
