What happens to items left on ice?

Hello.
This is my first time playing during winter, and I was wondering: what happens if you leave an item (like a crate or something) on frozen water, once winter is over and ice melts?
I'm talking about deep water in particular.
Does the item float until you move it? does it disappear? Or what?

More accurately: the container item (crate or whatever) will get destroyed; the items inside will get "spread around", sink and join the global pool of items thrown into water to be fished at random location by a random person.
