New Archery mechanics

So there's no bar, ranged weapons simply wait and shoot for a fixed amount of time, fine. But why can't I shoot things running at me anymore? And what good is Marksmanship now, quality boosts?

You can shoot things running at you. You're probably missing. If they're on TOP of you you can even shoot them but the damage is minimal.

Higher Marksmanship increases damage. I believe it also REDUCES incoming arrow damage.

The trick to shooting something now is either a) get a custom client like Amber, enable bounding boxes (shift+B in Amber) and aim at the animal's box, or b) click 'Shoot' and then left-click on the animal's portrait after you've aggro'd it to aim directly at the current target.

So basically the same as it's always been, except you aim much faster and arrows don't softcap animal quality.
Tedium is a feature.

Formerly known as DaMaGe. Been playing on and off since World 3 in 2010, but my old account no longer functions.

Here's the shooting speed/range they have. For some reason shubla's client only shows that line for hunter's bow.
You have to click again to charge the next arrow, but you can always click again to change the direction in which you're shooting and reset the timer.

The speed/range is not affected by anything. Q10 bow with 10 marksmanship is the same as q10000 bow with 10000 marksmanship, in terms of speed/range.

Marksmanship now acts as a softcap on the damage you do with higher quality bows. So for example, if your bow is q150, you will need 150 marksmanship to do full damage.
At the same time, the damage is calculated as your Marksmanship*Perception VS. your target's Marksmanship*Agility.

Also keep in mind that shooting things at point blank range does insignificant damage.

Hope this answers all of your questions ^^

Also holding a shield reduces the damage from arrows if you are facing the direction they are coming from
