This is a comparison of the two player's relative combat skill--the attacker's attack vs the defender's maneuver. I was trying to find the formula on the wiki (it's there someone, forgotten what page it's on). Generally, the delta is a scalar (multiplier) on the amount of opening the player takes based on the delta calculation.

With the current world, skills within 2x of each other (say one has a 50 in the relative skill, the other has 100 in the relative skill), the delta equals 1. Beyond that, it increases towards 2 at a cube root curve. (Previous worlds immediately started to curve if there was any difference at a fourth root curve rate.)

I'm throwing some math out there, but hopefully the first lines are easy enough.
