Rustroot ping size

I was searching for info about width of the rustroot ping, does it affect distance?

I was using q35, width of the ping was quite wide, I was digging in straight line, using q10 rustroot each 2-3 tiles to see if there is something close around me, but suddenly after 20-30 tiles, width of the ping was shrinking and went crazy showing other directions.

Is there any technique how to search ore effectively? I was reading about it on wiki and here on forum, but I couldn't find anything interesting and I still can't understand how rustroot works with those directions...

Rustroot shows ore 1 level lower. In addition, he writes a message, what ore is below you.

If you did everything right, then a single Galena cage (or something else) is quite possible, then the rust root will behave in a similar way.

There are some random factors to using rustroot I don't think anyone has scienced out yet (or at least haven't posted if they have done so). What we do know is that the higher the quality, the further out it searches for fields of ore. If your quality goes too high, it can be very erratic as it hits too many different fields at once.

From the image you posted, you have gotten pretty close to finding the ore below you, somewhere in the middle where the wedges overlap a bit, possibly a bit to within the support radius. If prospecting around there doesn't give you a message of 'you have found <...> below' you probably aren't off by much, and it could be just a few tiles of a "low occurrence" ore or a node that's a tile or two wide.

How did you make multiple wedges remain visible like that? Is there a client setting?

Yes. Sorry, I can't recall off the top of my exactly which clients support it at the moment. (I believe Ender does, can't remember seeing it in Amber.)
