Close combat vs ranged hunting - advice

Postby Lorefin » Tue May 05, 2020 5:04 pm

Hey, I wonder what should I add into

Let me explain - at the start of Haven 2.0 I was close combat hunter but I had a nice village to support me, bear sasuages, sword from the start etc.
But then, I kinda missed ranged hunting, everyone went for melee because you could spam few alts with 50 ua and kill a fearsome warrior.. I saw someone with a bow on a fight screen and nostalghia hits xD

So I went back to this world, Im like - gonna be a ranged hunter again! And then I went on a hunt with my friend and he starts to run around and dance with a boar... I was like WTF just shoot him from a boat... And then I learned the whole new archery thing....

So, I havent hunted much but Ive increased my int and perception to around 40 .. As a byproduct of food I also had around 40 dex but i thought to myself its quite ok, i will need it to craft a better bow
So I also added a bit of carpentry, around 35 to make better bow

But then, I kinda started mining, I have 20 str and for better stones, I've added 50 into masonry (from 30) because ive found a slot with q50 stones and tthey were useful.. Im lagging behind with str but my neighbour told he can feed me with pumpkin pies soon, he needs some metal too etc.. I wanted to maybe hit 40 str before I move on with other stats because it will be harder to add them later

So, previously I had 20 MM but then I went for hunder credo, I didnt know the stat bonus was, well, not a bonus but an addition to the base stats so I ended up with 40 MM

Now I kinda miss the old melee hunting because I remember, you could stack something fight-related from a boat, come close for a short fight, damage the prey and move away to the river again and repeat and I remember sword blows were hitting really hard, the dmg was good
Now with the prospect of having a normal sword and STR stat increase (also I could start hunting boards with a bow, had no time yet xD) maybe I could add into UA for hunting?

I want to hear your thoughts ;)

You have animals with armor now, so your shitty arrows will deal zero damage against boars, moose and bears. Same with melee; now you need to have a weapon and work into metal to even scratch armored animals to have a chance against them.

Boars are easily killed with like Q20 bow and arrow, they only shrug 15 damage.
