What is the best hunger level to be at? Or does it depend on your food supply?
For example, will you gain more stats if you go up in hunger level? But you need more food to maintain it?

If you're not in 300% you're doing it wrong. If you're not consistently in 300% your goal should probably be to upgrade(buy) a better table set & chair

300% is the best hunger level, and as snail says, it is maintainable with a good quality table and symbel items. The question is how much do you want to spend your time on trading for such, or if you've established yourself to that level. The system is open to be gamed, and there isn't necessarily one right answer. Just note that as you stuff your character, performance gets worse in multiple ways, and it's a calculation based on time invested vs stats gained.

You can also quest and eat salt to lower your hunger.
