Airlocks

I never bother with this. And it's never been a problem. But I'm playing with new players this world and I don't trust them not to screw it up.

Uhh, so I put a regular palisade gate, then a visitor palisade gate, then a normal wood gate?

And carry slave keys to lock the outer one in case of bad guys? That sounds about right, no?

Of course you want the entire thing to be non-decayed, but yes, this is the best setup I know. (To be absolutely clear: character is facing outside.)

With locks on both palisade gates but not on round-pole, you can move through it without keys on characters that have permissions, and important character can carry key to close the outer gate if chased in combat.

If you run into that airlock with the PvPer right behind you and turn around to close the exterior door, the PvPer will kill you and then be able to unlock the exterior door because it's facing out and both slave/master open that door. If you turn the outer door around, the PvPer is stuck either way (decent chance they're red handed either way) and can still down/kill you if they choose.

That death scenario is going to be the case with any airlock if there isn't enough time to close a gate. The goal is to give the pursued a chance to get inside, but not the aggressor.

The layout, more or less, is correct. You really need a small house or something else to change layers so that whoever has aggroed you cannot enter allowing combat relations to drop before passing the visitor gate. (For that matter, once ducked into the house, you could simply hearth out.) As pointed out, without the decay, there should be a wall along the two palisade gates on the right side (just with a large enough area to fit a house, minehole, something as a de-aggro area). I'm not 100% sure the fence gates are necessary, but they're built as a precaution given some past shenanigans and exploits.

Even when visitor works 100% as intended, without gates, you can sneak around and inspect items. This can be crucial intel.
