Soft. Pretty sure it's just so you can have soft metal to use that isn't tin or copper, because those are necessary for progression now.

Ive prospected some but is there any real reason to mine it over say casserite which is 30% and has unqiue uses?

Quality? Quantity? When I needed trash iron to make wall-grade steel, I found myself mining out heavy earth and other trash ores on L1 because it was just so much faster and saved on energy over mining out a better quality and quantity ore on L4 or L5.

Well, with the recent patch, "Plumb-Bob" now requires lead?
