Palisade visitor gate question

Postby Flow2404 » Mon Apr 12, 2021 10:18 pm

Hey there, just a short question about "Visitor Gates".
Would that layout below work?
How does it work if a stranger wants to enter my visitor gate without permissions on my personal claim, does he has to toggle criminal acts or is there another way?

Thanks in Advance!

They would have to trespass to get to your visitor gate. If you're using a personal claim then you would have to change the permissions for white if you want strangers to be allowed to trespass, but I recommend not doing that. In general it's not a great idea to have your walls open to strangers.

It depends.

If gate 3 is permanently open, then with trespassing people could come in to the unprotected space between gate 3 and 1.
If the visitor gate is also permanently open, then they can either visit the outer rim of your base (without being able to commit crimes) or if you built a fence infront of the visitor gate, they wouldn't be able to enter, unless you open it. (Keyless)

In theory you could also give permissions to white to commit Theft on your property, without giving Trespassing and/or Rummaging permissions. They could take things you put in the outer rim (e.g. eat from a table) but won't be able to open the gates to the inner area without trespass perms.

If you opened gate 1 then it's possible someone might come into the inner and outer area without any visitor buff.
It's also recommended to have more than one gate, in your example someone could just camp in the space between gate 3 and 1, disabling you from leaving.

Thank you very much for your detailed information! That helped alot.
Sure, i have 4 doors one of each direction. That picture was just an example of the gate with the visitor gate.
Gate 1 is for me and my other villagers. If there is a visitor i want to lead him trough the visitor gate whlist gate 1 is closed so he gets the debuff for all my claimed land. At least that was a plan.
If the visitor gate isnt on a claimed land, does the debuff will work, too when a player passed it?

It will not work, either village or personal claim is needed.
Also keep in mind for larger villages for example, that if you allow visitors to walk somewhere with no claim active they may shed themselves of the visitor buff and re-enter your claimed area as a proper criminal from the inside.

As an example, I misplaced village flags last world by 1 tile, and after the personal claim ran out that covered the spot, there was a tiny 1 tile strip of unclaimed land in the village, which also allowed agressive animals to spawn right into the farmland.

If you do not plan on having visitors it is sufficient to just have a tiny claim around the visitor gates though, to keep them out with a fence.
