What skill is needed to pick someone else's lock?
Theft? Vandalism?

If so, then in a fence made of branches the gate does not make sense?
It will be safer to break one section of the fence and rebuild it in 1 branch, as the bad guy will need vandalism to get inside.

Gates cannot be lockpicked, would still need vandalism.

Only houses and containers can be lockpicked.

So is there any reason to use anything above a wooden lock on ships or gates?

Not really... at least not at this time. No guarantee such things remain the same in the future.
