Question about fishing

How is determined the types of fishes that can be caught on a certain area? Does the fish list changes over time?
Let's say, I need a certain fish for the fisher credo and can't find it in the waters near my base. If I try again in the next day it may show up or I need to move far away to have a chance to find it?

Fish nodes are static. If you can catch an Asp there one day, you can catch them there again if the time of day and moon cycle are the same.

Common fish don't fluctuate too much, rarer fish and cave fish fluctuate quite a lot.

If you struggle to find a fish make sure you try different bait/lures/hooks/lines.

Even switching a line from cattail, to taproot or hide strap can greatly change the fish you get. This is especially so with a casting rod.
