One, boneclay is hella expensive. Most people make Coade clay because it's 6/craft and the ingredients are more obtainable.

Anything that gets touched by something with a star shard gets the star and it means it can't be infused with a star shard or something. It spreads sort of like memories of pain, I think.

Anything crafted by a starsharded item becomes starsharded. Things crafted with starsharded ingredients only starshard when most of their inputs are starshard inputs (I forget the exact ratios, but sharded stone + non-sharded stick = non-sharded axe). Buildings can't inherit starsharding (casting anvil/hammer will purge all starsharding effects).

I accidentally put branches in the crucible and now i can't smelt glass. Adding coal didn't work, is there a way to remove the branches or do i just need to wait?
