Mining on 8 and 9.

I was exploring, not even mining yet, on 9 and not 10 steps from my ladder was ambushed by 6 boreworms. I admit, I kind of panicked, fumbled a bit, started spamming full circle, and in 30 seconds I was at half red. I was also trapped against a wall unable to move. Luckily, my mate jumped down got one off me and I was able to break for the ladder.

Can I get some advice for how to deal with these threats? I have good stats, I am strong enough to mine and drop the mineholes at those levels. Is it possible to solo mine on 9? What should my deck look like and strategy be? TIA.

1. Go with a horse, clear area, leave horse, mine
2. You can make a house, wait for it to dry

Would a setup like this work as a panic room against a troll? Assuming the Log Cabin was fully built.

it's called soak value to be precise. When you build a house, it has very low soak value, can be destroyed even by animals. During time, it gains soak, becoming more difficult to break

I am not at all worried about a troll. They give you time to run and there is only one. I can kill a troll. I am worried about getting slimed walled and pinned or boreworm ambushed and pinned. I think I understand about the horse. Ride around, trigger any spawns and kite, then mine the area. Any fighting tips? tia

it's a very stupid mechanic that only has the purpose of being annoying and I don't understand why it exists
