Wounds and healing dead end

Postby Jubal_Barca » Thu Sep 01, 2022 9:37 pm

So, I got randomly stabbed a lot by some idiot who decided to walk up to me and shiv me for all of my stuff (better at playing the game than me, granted, but still an idiot). My character is down on a glorious nearly bugger all HHP, including a fifty-six point blade kiss.

I'm honestly not really sure what to do here. If something sneezes on me or looks at me funny, I'm dead. I'm far enough in that I really don't want to lose this character, but not far enough in to have reliable wool supplies so gauze is out, and I don't have a big stockpile of stinging poultices for all the deep cuts either. I think I probably need to stop playing for a couple of days to sleep off every bit of damage that doesn't need healing kit, build myself as much armour as I can with what I've got in my base, and then tentatively forage for nettles as best I can to make stinging poultices. And then if that works, again wait for ages for the debuffs from that to wear off... Anyone else got any calls on what to do, or advice on things to do to better prepare for one's own very likely death?

(Also, just to vent it because the argument will probably happen anyway: I know a lot of people get very hurt feelings when people point this out on the forums, but honestly griefer/bandit play is the absolute arse end of this game. Like, I accept and actually agree with the broad design philosophy re allowing PvP at all levels to prevent exploits etc etc, but also, there's a bunch of murder-cowards who use that and the fact that PvP isn't made across level disparities to justify to themselves having a frankly pathetic approach to play.)

Yeah just heal as best you can and pray. Might be a good time to start an alt in the meantime!

You can survive this. Make some kind of bed, sleep in it, make sure energy is in the green. You will heal up enough to continue to forage for the things you need to make poultices etc.. Be careful, stay out of swamps until fully healed and you will be ok.

I have started an alt in case I need it to e.g. look for nettles because my main could right now full-on die from collecting the things - but an alt created during the main's life can't inherit, right? So it's not worth building the alt up too hard because I'll want to inherit the claims and stuff from my main.

(Also side-question: if a character inherits, do study desks inherit or do you have to build a new one for the new character?)

Anyway, yes, sleeping it off is the main plan. Also been communicating with some significantly more elite hermits in the area who may be able to spare some healing supplies. Fingers crossed!

That is why I create and keep some medsupplies before get wounded - not after it happened.

Yeah, lesson learned on that front. Though there are some wounds here that I literally don't have effective capacity to make healing kit for yet.

I have been growing hemp in my garden ingame, I'll admit I've not tried putting it on the fire to hotbox my cave yet (honestly that would actually be kind of a funny mechanic to have as an easter egg in there).

You can clover a mouflon to get 1 wool, enough for a gauze. Waybroad will make (not)quick work of the deep cuts. (But it's easier than stinging poultice and less debuffs). If you don't have a loom make a shitty one from bark fibres and cattails.
Total misplay.

Are you considering your main dead already ? :D
Only a new character can inherit, and you can right-click on any Study Desk to take control of it.

Your 2nd character can be turned into your miner, hunter or something else after that (even better if your got him on a second account).

You should absolutely make a second character that never leaves the walls and raise farming, sewing and such on that character so you don't lose your ability to run your place if you die. Also it's a good idea to give claim bonds to this character, which reminds me: make sure your attacker didn't take your claim bond, if they did open the claim management window and renew the bond right away otherwise they'll take it over.
