Does being out on an island make it less desirable for someone to raid me? and how long can I be away from the game before my claim falls?
as I work threw the week and only play mainly on weekends apart from the off hour here and there.
Thank you

I find it unlikely someone would battering ram a little hermitage, but I can't say it's impossible. The biggest giveaway for "claim is active, player isn't" is the state of farmlands. Entirely ripe fields, unplanted fields, or "dead from winter but we're a week into spring" are all giveaways.
So your answer is either 3 days or 2 months

What does happen when it hits winter can you no longer grow any crops? and thank you for answering and helping

Planted crops wilt, and can be harvested to get ~1 plant's worth of seeds back. No crops will grow until spring.
So you don't lose anything, but if you don't replant in the spring the wilted crops are pretty obvious.
