What would be good size of claim/palisade for a solo player?

Postby MacGregor » Sun Jul 23, 2023 1:21 pm

Kind of new player. Last time played back in 2017 (looking at forum history). Decided to commit a bit more this time.

I'm at the point where I'm preparing to build palisade. But can't really figure out how much land to claim/wall?
I don't want too big footprint to avoid bringing attention. On other hand it's pretty easy just looking at the map to figure out where bases are. So maybe I shouldn't be concerned by this?
Other idea would be to, for now wall something like 30x30 box around my timber house and then just build out another layers of walls when I will need to claim more land?
Main concern is that I really don't know how much space I will need for all the stuff, going into late game?

Just make a village.

Save the LP it's cheaper and expandable as need for cloth later.

30x30 could be a little small, for an hermit I'll go with something like 50x50 to have all the comfort, and not a mess everyehere.
Something in between 30 and 50 can work.

Size depends on how often you play; somewhere between 10000 to 40000 square meters is more space then you'll ever need to solo, and still have manageable village authority with little charisma and/or intellect.

I would start with 30x30 or 50x50, then expand to 80x80 or more.

Having a large space is important because it lets you play less add still be productive. Having 6+ chicken hutches is better than 3 because they require less work to produce the same output. The only "downside" is this means you need at least one big field to make food.

Small compact bases become frustrating and stifling. It's better to have your base half empty than totally full.

Also mile stones are good for teleporting around a big base

Just remember the difference between 25x25 and 50x50 is 100 extra wall tiles (same # cornerposts/gates). But you go from having 625 tiles of space to 2500.

So much junk piles up that you want space, it's worth the extra work (it's not double because the cornerposts/gates take a lot of resources and you're only adding walls) for x4 the space.
