Will the game have UI Scaling when it comes to steam?

Postby Traslogan » Tue Oct 15, 2024 11:19 pm

Hey folks.

I struggled (and ultimately failed) to get into H&H again in 2019 with a 1440p monitor. Nowadays I'm on a 4K monitor.
The UI was entirely unusable even down at 1440p never-mind 2160p. Is there going to be UI Scaling at all yet on the steam release next month?

I'd love to get into H&H. I was a long-time Wurm Online player in its heyday but this is basically THE one thing that truly prevents me getting in to this game. I don't want a low-res blurry sub-native experience on anything, especially if I have to change it at an OS level.

Just use custom client, mate.

Loftar already added the Interface scale setting (Options -> Interface Settings) for a while now.

It works pretty good.
If you're gonna use a custom client, you have to hope that the client dev actually makes sure the changes work on different UI scales too.

Ah okay I didn't know it had been added. I've been holding off on checking up on it till Nov 1st, thanks for letting me know.

If I remember correctly, most custom clients actually disable the UI scaling at least by default) because it potentially creates issues, and is only needed on larger than average monitors?

Maybe not, but anyway just in case, launch argument for disabling UI scaling: Please read the post below.

Code: Select all
-Dsun.java2d.uiScale.enabled=false -Dsun.java2d.win.uiScaleX=1.0 -Dsun.java2d.win.uiScaleY=1.0 -Xss8m -Xms1024m -Xmx4096m

It's ok, my client will support interface scaling

That's something different. Custom clients use those jvm arguments to disable the Windows DISPLAY scale, which bugs the game out.

Namely, this:

The in-game "Interface scale" setting is not affected by those jvm arguments.
