Basic material quality question

Postby Kinglazy » Mon Oct 28, 2024 4:21 am

I am a returning player aiming for hermiting. Seems like whatever I decide to specialize in to later will require a basic materiel of high quality (water, soils, clay)

I would like to find a location with high quality access to all 3 before settling but I am not sure how to do it. Given the choice of only one, which of the 3 should I prioritize settling near?

Water is something you'll get more frequently than others, but initially you won't be able to see the good nodes, unless you push your Survival and Masonry. Some nodes can go up to 50+, and that will take a couple of days to get, and not settling in the meantime is wasted time, more or less. Chances are, you'll find a good node during exploration, mark them on your map, and use thingwalls to reach them if they are far away. Grabbing a cartful of water gives you 7 barrels per run (if you lift the last one), and that should last you a while. Same goes for ball clay, though that might be easier to grab by boat (if you can afford Wheelbarrows, two will net you 160 pieces of clay + whatever fits in your inventory, OR if you're REALLY ambitious, you can have a cupboard built and fill that with the good clay).

BTW last update is all about using your local resources.

Make the most of what you have nearby, and yes, trade.

Priority is settling out of the way.
Then you find nodes afterwards, and you TRAVEL to collect them, you dont build near any hotspots for safety.
