Palisade Airlock Advice

Some quick Palisade advice for newer players.

All gates leading inside your base should be Visitor Gates. Players passing through a Vgate can't commit crimes until they leave your claim.

HOWEVER: You can't go through a Vgate when you are in combat (even when the Vgate is open). A palisade with only Vgates is not a place to escape to when an animal or player is out to murder you. You can't get inside.

Your palisade needs Normal Gates. One entrance and one exit. This way you can enter your base during combat and with just a Slave Key.

You enter the locked cabin to break line-of-sight and disengage combat. Then travel to your hearthfire. Nobody will follow you into this construction. This can be used to trap players.

You don't need to copy my layout. Here's another example I found but it's lacking the log cabin.
The Vgate stays open so you can enter without a key (when not in combat). Other players can't open the fence gate behind the Vgate due to the visitor buff.

Fence doors placed directly after the v-gate (zero tile gap) can be opened from the outside (unless Dev's fix that in W16). Using a 1 or 2 tile gap is more secure.

I was just about to ask sbout airlocks and building a safety hatch in to the walls. This answers a lot, thanks.

First time I see that. Does it have any prupose? Seems like if a pali was breached that will do nothing.

It's better utilized for visitor gates on the outer walls but having it as an extra layer of security for inner airlock wall is good too. It's nice to have visitor gates you leave open so that it's not always necessary to use a key every time you leave/enter your walls, but this also means you need a way to prevent random strangers from casually strolling into your place to check it out which is what the fence gate is for.

It's also useful as a means of separating your visitor gate master key and normal gate master key so that if you, for example, only bring out the normal gate (airlock) slave key to escape a conflict you won't need to worry about replacing every single visitor gate lock as a result of losing said key.

A player should get the visitor buff when they walk on/in a visitor gate, and thus won't be able to open the fence gate without having the necessary claim permissions. Although, this may still be true:

Better to follow that suggestion anyways to be safe.
