Why do so many role-players prefer one-sided stories?

Postby VirginiaCJohnson » Mon Apr 21, 2025 8:41 am

I was frustrated with role-playing games where I was the only one building the world, plot, and conflict. Despite asking for collaborative storytelling in my ads, many partners just dropped their characters in and passively responded to everything I createdgunspin — offering nothing new.

Why respond to role-playing ads if you’re not helping advance the story?

Thanks you.

It is difficult to find someone with whom you "click" and work well together. All too easy to irritate them, "why did you build that here?", "I didn't want that changed!", etc. So, safer to be a passive partner in the scenario. You need good communication and compatible play styles. Not easy to find, but wonderful when you do. Don't give up.

(I found someone like that a few worlds ago. We played through two worlds together, building a nice village in each. We both had several alts, each with their own personalities and goals; we were in chat together most of the time, even tried to schedule our day so we could be online together. It was the most fun I've had in this game, or many other; but eventually they wanted to return to playing solo. I still miss them.)

Thanks for a great idea.
