Linking steam account and more

So I came back to this game and created this account about 1 month ago. I played for less than 2 days in the 'browser' aka default client in world 16 before learning that they brought it to Steam. This is where I learned that Steam does not let you choose which world but puts you in 16.1 - I was fine with that. I learned that 16 is about 1 year old now so 16.1 seemed better choice.
My questions are:
1. Can I link this account with my steam and if yes then will I be playing the 2 day char or the 1 month char I played on steam?
2. Can I make forum avatar that already links to my steam if no to no.1?
3. Whats the best way to get the steam char I am playing right now to get 'verified'?
4. Explain tokens and how they relate to steam cash.
5. ????

Maybe I'm just too used to non-Steam version, but does playing through Steam have any upside over not using it? Aside from being able to use your Steam account and not having to remember login details for Haven account.

Note that at least one post says that following the guide can delete your existing characters (I assume the whole point of linking accounts is that one of them gets "overwritten?" In any case I have no idea what exactly causes it and if that's reversible.)

If you insists on using Steam to launch the game, you can just subscribe to a Custom Client "Kami" and press "switch to native" while in the character selection screen to log in with a regular Haven account.

Like you pointed out I only use Steam out of conveniance. I think I will wait until next world and link the account before creating new character just to be safe. Thanks tho
