UA vs MC

Postby Kinglazy » Wed Apr 22, 2026 7:33 am

What are the benefits and downsides to each? As to my understanding,

MC uses weapons for damage which are all have much higher damage and typically longer range than anything UA which makes them the META.

UA typically have less CD and are used to enable MC by making opening and generating IP, using them for damage is bad and is only necessary when starting on a fresh world.

Is there any benefit for focusing on UA? If not, what level is best to keep UA before dumping everything to MC? I like the idea of a tank using oak stance to aggro for the team but isn't just using shields up strictly better?

Lastly, what do restorative moves depend on? Wiki isn't clear on that.

Do a thought experiment.
You're using a b12 and use UA for opening your enemy and setting your stance delta with bloodlust, then cleave for damage.

How effective is your build with 1 mc, 100 UA? The inverse?

UA is for PvP. Like Robin said. B12 + UA + MC

If you are not planning on PvP you do not need UA

So I got that both are relatively relevant in PVP especially with a B12 build. But I am still not clear on some mathematical details like

What stat ratio is good to build (1:1 or MC 2:1 UA for example)?
Do UA and MC affect restorations? Wiki table says only flex is affected by UA.

Restorations are not affected by skill.
Flex is affect in how much it opens, since it's also a UA blue opener.

Combat skills affects how much you open and how much people open on you, it's a comparrison between the skill on the move you use to open and the skill on the target's stance.
It has nothing to do with damage, or cooldowns or how much you close, etc.

As mentioned before, but just to clarify, UA is usually favored for big weapons because UA is not affected by the weapon's increase in cooldown, it only affects MC moves.
In the cleave example, the MC only matters in how much your cleave is going to open when you do cleave, which is, debatably, negligible.

I think most people would say that having some MC is good even on UA focused characters, but the meta MC deck uses MC and only MC. You cannot go wrong with it.

And yes, do read the linked guide, it's really good.
