Hiding your mine hole on your cellar as a hermit

Is that really necessary? I was told to do that and saw videos recommending that set up, but after roughly playing for 2 worlds now, I don't entirely see the point. Raiders won't be fooled, specially if you have a house fenced off from the rest of your base, as security demands it. At that point you are trading a security layer for a bluff that can work against you by showing off you know what you are doing and may have valuables. I was told horror stories of raiders sieging random hermits so that fear is not baseless.

Completely unnecessary. If you start after the wipe, like everyone else, aim for the natural cave entrance instead. If its late into a world, you could consider doing it, if you obtain metal for pickaxe and cellar from somewhere else.

You only need to do it only if you trying to make some sort of trap or hide siege camp with this bluff. If someone want to raid you, he will spend 2 minutes to check mine level anyway, so it's not nessesry.
Another problem that it's additional two loading screens, when you moving down and up from mines and back. You can think that it's minor problem, but a reallity it will consume big chunk of you playing time if you will use this mine for couple months or more.

Does the benefit of essentially having a free second base out-weight the hassle of having to travel to a cave for mining activities? I suppose you can build your main base as close to a cave as possible.

Thank you for your input, made me reconsider my base design to include better pathing optimization and distances.

so long as you can spare the materials splitting your base between cave levels via making a minehole system is a net positive. more space, and also IF on the off chance you get raided they can only get into the 1 spot.

as a hermit if your palisade is set and every possible entrance is visitor gated, you wont get "raided". nobody cares about our q112 tin bars.
