You could always kill him, or build a few claims at the other entrances to block him from getting into the mine.

Or hell you could even just set up a claim inside the cave to prevent him from getting anyway without leaving scents

Lol these replies.
OP was being reasonable, why not bargain for something in the long term. An ally/friend that lasts a few months is worth more than a node of iron.

If I caught someone stealing from say, my farmland, I'd offer them more seeds for free and let them know I'm open for trade or working together. Not that I would expect 95% of the Hafen demographic to understand this with your crippling social disorders.

This is something every raider learns when
they reach enlightenment. To raid one's
base is to get a single return on your time
which cannot be done as easily the second
time around if the opponent even chooses
to continue. To take everything from your
neighbors is to risk that resource drying up
for good. This raider made the mistake of
taking your goods that you were working
for too early, and then he proceeded to
have to work for more of that same good
that he could have let you taken care of.

Of course that means he would have had
to monitor and protect you from other
thieves in the meantime. Regardless the
proper method would have been to first
observe you and find whether or not you
were growing at a decent rate. If you had
shown signs that you were starting to near
a plateau, then he should allow you to dig
all the metal up, and then take it from you
when you're done, or nearly done. This
leads to max gains, but requires a great
deal more intelligence as well as proper
stalking.

If you were a very productive person that
never reached a plateau, the proper way
to handle you would be to offer you trades.
But most raiders lack the attention span to
properly handle their neighbors. The only
solution to an unintelligent thief is death.

Sorry i've been working, the replies on this are funny haha. Yeah my bargaining was just me trying to get a better deal for my helpless self at the moment, I would normally join a village but most of my previous deaths in older worlds playing HnH have mostly been around living with other people - raided, village drama and other things that lead to my untimely demise most of the time. When I played the Beta of Salem I survived from start to finish as a hermit I had my ups and downs of almost dying and stuff but I had pretty good stuff for someone on their own and starting to make higher q items myself. (That's why I also prefer being a hermit I like doing all the different jobs and being a jack of all trades, when village life usually revolves around taking a role in a group, limits freedom in some ways). But when living with as a hermit without a wall and coming across someone higher in the food chain - I thought i'd bust out the negotiations because I lack the manpower at the moment to be more imposing. But that's why I like this game instead of doing quests and stuff for robot NPCs the interactions are usually human depending on who you meet which is the games most interesting aspect. To be fair I should have claimed that node spot seeing as it took me hours to find it and work on it etc, but i'll find another hopefully.. :/.

My next move seeing as he hasn't fucked me over is i'm going to try and ride it out, my palisade is almost ready to put up so i'm gonna ride it out... hopefully.

You gotta harvest your victims like crops, because if you fuck them up too much they'll quit, move or run out of things to steal and then you'll have nothing to do. At that point, you quit, and then the victims win in the end, because they've eradicated you from the game.

You have to look @ this shit from a different perspective yo
