Obviously talking about equally competent equally geared sides. Defending a ram against a bunch of useless cowards is not the same as against someone who doesn't give a shit or someone who prepares for eventual losses.

I think the main thing is just some reason at all to not kill off the characters. There is no benefit to leave a character I KOed alive.
