I cant even get OBS to record the amber client on my system at all so Im glad you got that to work.
You can also try and raise its priority. In windows task manager right click the javaw.exe process on the process tab, it should be taking about 500 to 1gig of ram and put its priority to a higher setting. I dont see this as having an effect but its worth a try. This may effect OBS too.

Haven client alone and not minimized is using 50-60% CPU
With OBS grabbing record buffer it peaks at like 92% :s
Sitting idle with nothing open I use about 5-8% CPU
OBS is in 720p and is optimized for that
All other games I've streamed I've had no real noticeable performance issues
Also, you need to use window capture and disable aero if you're running windows 7 and want to capture haven
