Why not just go to the old method of filling the tubs with water and just add bark?

This, i vote this.

If tanning is gonna be fixed, i want to be able to just load my inventory with bark and slap that shit into the tubs.

Maybe barks should be grinded with quern?
Then you put bark powder on tubes and water.

My tanning still uses fluid - so I have no clue how you figure this headline is the case.

This would be acceptable, too.

edit: I really don't have any issue with needing to "cook" it a cauldron at a time, either, but only if we can do a whole cauldron at once, and not only a bucket.

Hypothetically, if there was something wrong with tanning. Which there isn't, at all. You would likely need to build new tubs, to take advantage of the bug that doesn't exist.

As an in-between better than nothing solution that will likely endure for far too long. Can we boil a cauldron, then have bark in our inventory, craft tanning fluid that uses the water in the cauldron to fill 2 buckets that we are carrying?

So we craft 2 buckets of tanning fluid, fill a barrel from those two buckets, then craft 2 more buckets of tanning fluid. Then the cauldron requires refilling, which can be done from a barrel. Which then somewhat halves the hassle, and slightly makes up for the 4x increase in tanning fluid cost.

you're making it too complicated again. I figured someone might add the "two buckets" into again. Just make a cauldron full of fluid which can be dumped directly into a barrel of tanning fluid OR into a tanning tub.

but a cauldron is only 30L. personally i don't see why it changed to a crafting recipe instead of the old way.

Ideally, but then there is the issue of using the cauldron to do other things while its filled with boiling tanning fluid.

I would prefer the old way more than any other way.

The old way involves most people 92ing the hide though.
