No, you're right, i just misremembered (i did try to do that and failed, of course).
Dunno about the issue, then, cause it doesn't seem to be consistent. In my case changing the food and the chickens (as they were low quality by then) is all that was needed to solve it.

Chicken - still eating too much?

Postby Zarxes » Fri Oct 02, 2015 8:48 pm

It still feels that chicken eat a bit too much. 3 Coops of Chicken seem to need a lot (as in 4-5x) more attention and food pregnant cattle. From what i have been seeing a coop with 7 Hens and 1 Cock eats about 40-50 Units of food per day. This is definitively a lot higher than it was in legacy where chicken didnt need much attention at all. I think you could keep the same ammount of chicken afloat with 8 Units of food per day.

Could you maybe take another look into it?

this maybe problem with chickens. I use both Oddi client and Shovel client. On shovel my chickens are like 5-7 but on Oddi they are 1-3. why would that be?

Chicken coop food consumption

Postby Necroliter » Sat Oct 03, 2015 7:35 pm

I will post it under bug section, cause i`m quite sure it is.

4 chicks (not chickens) consume moar than 50 units of food less than in 12 hours.

4 cows + 4 sheeps + 2 pigs consume ~20 units of food per day.

Either there is bug in amount consumed or eggs eat food. I have a lot of eggs in my coop, so i can imagine bug where they do, indeed, consume food, even if they are not going to hatch.

My friend just told me funny thing :D
According to his observation our animals, cows, sheep and pigs eat from the chicken coop fodder instead of Food Trough.
Animals, are not hungry, food troughs are always full, but food from coops disappears rapidly ;]

That's easy to test. Just have a chickenless chicken coop near some hungry domesticated animals without a food trough to eat from. If they gorge on the swill in the coop then that's confirmed.
Unfortunately I'm not willing to starve my animals for such a test. =(

That might explain why food is consumed from trough only rarely, while coop drops rapidly. Will check, but it`s still a bug.

I`ll just dump all my trough in coop (all chickens dead anyway) and see how it goes.
Note - coop have 225.7. trough have 58.5.

Just adding my two kopejecks here.

Chicken still drop quality over time, as well as hatched chicks.

The coop has no quality whatsoever and does not (or, rather, should not, according to Jorb) affect ql of chicken inside.

I've been feeding my ravenous bloodthirsty chicken with prize cuts of Boar, Auroch, Fox and Deer meat (all above 20 ql). Had two coops filled up to 300|300 (100%) and one (built some time after) with 100/300 (30%) swill.

Over some time when inspected with an empty bucket, the two initial coops have (sic!) 10/10/10 ql swill, while third one have some 18/16/18 one.

My guess is -- due to some nasty bug ql of EVERYTHING inside a coop decays over time, be it chicken, chick or swill. Since I got my (rather diversified in quality when put in) swill go down to 10/10/10, I think it's the minimal ql value (set for water?) playing a role here.

______________
TL;DR: bug still in place, chickens ql drop, swill ql drop down to 10/10/10, chicken eat way too much, and they can eat meat, which is I'm pretty sure a "not intended" part.

I've commented on this before. I'm planting and harvesting 80 tiles of beets to feed 10 chickens now lol.

The more chicks I get, the faster food drops in my chick coop. So pretty sure it's the chickens doing it.
