Strange interaction with combat and levels

I was getting chased by a bat underground, ran out the cave, then over the hill, and then was ko'ed... not only that but my armour took damage.

bug?

Hmmm. Could it be that the bat can attack you while being on the right coordinates, although in a different game world. Will investigate.
