Cauldrons require "any metal"
They should require like iron. Try putting bunch of wood below tin cauldron and then lighting it. It will melt.

Working as intended, not a bug. Tin would not work as such, but pewter might, and copper will. We are generous.

It's a video game, some measure of suspension of disbelief is needed lest we never get a game to play "at all".
