Field Cairn & Trespassing

Postby chrisrock » Mon Oct 05, 2015 4:10 am

alright, so i built a field cairn to protect my extended farm from my fellow villagers. one of them was just trying to cross the area and found out that he can get inside by the bottom of the area but not from the sides. if he tries from the sides, he'll get a message saying he can. if he enters through the bottom of the area, no message and he can walk freely. maybe it's a bug? he still can't do anything else, just walk. but just not on the edges on the side.

also, just noticed the field cairn can also be used to extend the vclaim? because mine did. the 30x30 area i claimed with it is a tile larger to one of the sides than the vclaim. i wasn't meaning to expand, just didn't want anyone touching my crops.

I'll look at it.

Be aware that the field cairn presently doesn't have an overlay of its own to indicate its area, for which reason it may conflict with the village claim. I suspect that is what you are seeing when it appears to have extended your village claim.

so you CAN expand your village using it? i noticed it doesn't have an overlay of it's own and that's kinda bad too but that doesn't explain why my villagemate could walk freely from one side of the area and not the other. anyways, it's not a huge thing, i just thought i should put it out there. i guess i'll just do some testing with it.

Point being that you probably can't use it to expand, only that it looks as if you can.

Question: What is a "field cairn," and how do I build it?

It's an option that village lawspeakers get to designate special exceptions to the general village rules in an area. It's under the lawspeaker menu, which you get for being the lawspeaker of a village.

I know that might be a silly request, but I love cairns (IRL) so could I see a screenshot of how a field cairn looks like in-game? :D Still haven't seen one :(
