Trees growing quality/inspect

Postby smileyguy4you » Tue Oct 06, 2015 8:33 am

Not 100% sure this is a bug, but

I inspect a freshly planted in the ground tree, and it shows me what seems to be the end quality of the tree, as it grows i can get the same quality branches, fruit, boughs etc...etc...etc if i cut the tree down a stage early because its stunted, i get way lower quality wood, now that does make sense, but should i only be seeing the wood quality when i inspect the tree as its growing and see it increase through the stages, and shouldnt the stuff picked off a tree not fully grown equal the current wood quality at that stage not the final wood quality?

ie: i can pick branches from a inspected tree of q20 20 20 and get q 20 20 20 branches, but if i cut it down early and get 1 log instead of two i get something like q 8 8 8 wood, weird that i can get branches at the max full grown quality while the trunk of the tree is only q 8 8 8

Will consider. Thanks.

While this works differently to legacy, i would like to propose, Jorb, that you leave this as 'intended'. I find it to be an interesting mechanic for one, it isn't absolutely rediculous that there's a missmatch between the picked branch/bough/fruit/seed q and the wood q when the tree is chopped down prematurely. Furthermore, and very importantly, the fact that the tree q at maturity can be inspected immediately after planting improves the tree planting experience as a whole in that you are able to remove the tree immediately if you got fucked by RNGesus as opposed to babying it to maturity in the hope that it will turn out ok. Saves time, saves space, reduces tedium = good.

EDIT: A fellow villager and friend: "it also adds depth to the tree growing experience by allowing you to immediately get ql seeds but not being able to fully harvest the wood until the tree is mature
which is similar to real life tbh"

Even though you can't "immediately" get ql seeds, you can get them prior full maturity and this is indeed nice.

I have not grown any trees yet in current version and only a limited amount in legacy, but to me it seems too good to be able to get full quality seeds, branches and so on from a tree that was just planted. Doesn't this make getting new generations too fast?
However I do like being able to see the full quality of the tree as soon as it's planted.

I like how it works now, intended or otherwise.

No, you can't get them immediately, it has to grow some first and once you can get some, you can only get very little, but you can get those at full maturity q.

From my testing you can get fruit and nuts pretty early, but seeds only quite late, still prior full maturity though.

EDIT: Added images for illustration. Also, apologies Sab, even though seed trees do make seeds available prior full maturity, it seems only at 99%... so for all intent and purpose, you were correct.
