Received no materials from a bush after moving it

I moved an elderberry bush that was at 100% growth with a shovel because it was too close to a wall and then immediately cut it down. I did not receive any materials from it--not even a branch. The character that sprouted and planted the bush had Druidic Rites, but the one that moved it had none of the farming skills purchased.

It happens sometimes while cutting bushes. The ammount of wood you get seems random. 0-14 is what I got so far. I planted 16 elderberry bushes. Got 0 blocks of wood from 2 of them.
