Great Hall colors bug

Postby Ejnekor » Tue Dec 01, 2015 6:47 pm

Hello.

So I was using this guideline to design my Great Hall:

Image

My setup was:

99 prim stone (limstone)
51 sec stone (basalt)

159 prim board (spruce - white)
91 sec board (King's Oak - nice texture yellow-ish)

280 prim block (spruce - dark)
145 sec block (birch - white)
75 tret block (pine - creme)

And result is:

So design-wise only metal, stones, tertiary block and boards were "on place". What happened with the rest? :/

Screw that! Those King's Oaks take time to find :) Grew 2 myself for that...

It still looks neat, but for some reason roof and doors are completely off, might be something odd either with guideline or mechanic. It would be more sad if I would do initial design with rare tree for a roof :(

I can't give you a proper answer, I don't understand how it all works either but I did just want to say I think it looks really nice even if it didn't go according to plan and that in some cases blocks use the inner colour and not the bark, idk how it works with the hall though.

So basically, I'm just saying it looks beautiful. :D

This is why my philosophy is only ever use materials that always look good like planewood, marble, black ore, malachite, basalt, porphry, cherrywood or if I want a "wood" color then sweetgum, chestnut, walnut.

Any time I've tried to use spruce or some other random thing it always fucks me over.

It does. I got lucky with bug, I guess... but it could screw someone completely over, sadly. We need visuals to work in a game. So I got used to "inner side - boards, bark - blocks" and if something is not working like this it either a bug (quite major for design) or a mechanic that is not 100% working visually for us. Either way, might be worth looking at it.

Or if there is something wrong with calculation or a design picture - we, as users, also need to be aware of that... I got screwed with Mansion before, and it looks ugly :( but sadly we were less careful with material gathering and documenting that time...

Looks like third block also wrong. All three took middle part of the board there, instead usual outer part for blocks. So it is completely different from the rest of the block usage.

Is it intended like that or a bug after all?

^^ Yes, I do agree with you 100% ... my next build is the hall and I've been putting it off purely because I'm not sure how it works and really don't want another eyesore like my cellar door, lol, esp when this one will be a lot, lot bigger. :D

I wish the devs would just be clearer and state which blocks will use inner colour on specific parts of the design and also exactly how many of each component is needed to make it work.

Meanwhile I just look at everyone elses and try to find which area's on them I like until I have enough specifics to build mine, lol, your roof is in, unfortunately we don't quite know how you came by it.

Yes, it does say somewhere that blocks use the inner part of the wood .... I'm sorry I can't remember where I read it, it may have been in Tecks colour guide or in the update when the mansions came out.

That can't be true, since I did build mansions and other buildings with design before and it worked fine. Here is example of all spruce mansion as well:

So its something unique to Great Hall (or was changed for unknown reason after I build my last smaller building). It shouldn't be unique...
