Leaving house freezes game

Postby Floofins » Sun Dec 20, 2015 1:09 am

Sometimes when I leave my tower, the game freezes. This only happens when exiting, never when entering. Sometimes the game freezes on a black screen with the loading text. Sometimes, I get a result like this:
lol glitches.PNG

The stairs and the basement hatch are missing, as are most of my cabinets. Stranger still, some trees have appeared around my hearth fire.

Similar to last time, most of my cabinets have gone missing, and instead of a random group of trees around my hearth fire I have some numbers. These are the numbers that indicate how far a tree is in its growing cycle, an option from Amber Client.
I haven't closed my game yet, in hopes it would fix itself while I got started on this bug report. When I alt tabbed to it again, I found this:

The first floor of my tower is back to normal, but the game is still stuck here. It switched back to the second image briefly, before switching back to the third image.

I suspect this might be caused by having my hearth fire indoors, as I don't think I've encountered this bug with any other buildings. I haven't discerned any pattern so far. Most of the time, I can leave my house with no problem. Then, every once in a while (every IRL day or every other day), this happens. I ALWAYS have the "show tree growth percentage" option on in my amber client, so I know that isn't the only deciding factor in what causes this bug.

Java Version 8, Update 60
Amber Client v 1.23.4
OS: Windows 7

My Java is a little out of date, so I will update it and add another post to this thread if it happens again. I will also then try moving my hearth fire outside to see if that helps.

After updating Java, I was able to connect and log in. After selecting a character, the game begins to load, and then crashes. Attached to this post is the bug report.

EDIT: This happened when trying to open the game with Amber Client. I tried opening it without amber client successfully.

Your error report indicates that it crashes in Intel's GPU drivers, which makes the problem related to this one.

However, it's not entirely identical either; your driver seem to crash because its GLSL compiler recurses off the stack. If you know how to, you can try starting Java telling it to use larger stacks, such as with a -Xss1M option. An easier way to test might be to just upgrade to 64-bit Java, however, since it uses larger stacks by default.

I'm afraid I'm not quite that tech savvy, though my dad might be. I'll try the 64-bit Java and see if that works.

Yeah, that fixed it! My game runs through Amber Client again. Thanks a bunch! I'll update this thread if I run into that glitch again, though.

After updating Java (as well as switching to the 64-bit version at loftar's suggestion), my game once again froze while I was trying to leave my house. This time, there were no oddities such as disappearing furniture or mysterious teleporting trees and floating numbers. Everything looked normal, the game just froze.

I'm going to try moving my hearth fire outside and see if that fixes it.

For me the game randomly crashes when leaving houses too (non-intel GPU).
My best guess is that it tries to render something that isn't loaded by now.

Shouldn't have something to do with the HF, except that you'll leave the house way more often so your perceived chance to crash is higher by upping the amount of dice rolls.

Oh, fair point!

Also, my game doesn't crash so much as freeze. I have to manually close the game myself.

Moving the hearth fire did not fix this problem, but it does happen less often now. I've only had the game freeze up once since moving my hearth fire.

Same issue here.

HF is outside. Far too often I get freeze when I go in or out of the house. Have to close client manually to restart quite often because of that :(

seems to happen worst with the wider doors, or I'm just making stuff up, but it happens really frequently with the stone tower/great hall and I don't think I've ever seen it on a stone stead despite using several.
