for some reason parry doesn't deal damage when it absorbs unarmed attacks from animals, humans or bots.

I'm getting this as well. My parry is doing nothing at all majority of the time. Sometimes it starts working again for a fight or two but then goes back to just not working again. Not dealing damage or even damaging defenses of animals.

The new update fucked it up somehow can confirm it was working before hand. Same goes for feigned dodge...

It's not quite a bug.
From what I've found, theres a certain distance you have to be to actually strike back with either parry or feigned dodge.

This is most observable with bats. You can put a parry up and on their first attack upon arriving to you the parry will be hit but the bat won't be struck.
Moving closer to the bat will allow parry to trigger properly.
W3 to W6 - Blockland. Special mentions: New Avalon, Tarn of Hotdog, Red October.
W7 - Elvenia, til we all got lazy.
W8 - Cult of R'lyeh, til the deeps called us back.
W9 - Tartarus, til death/wizards came for the land itself.
W10 - ???, ruined and forgotten.

It's definitely acting differently than it was before. Never had this issue before, parry always countered.

Yeah, The new hitbox update lets you use moves from further away, but stuff like parry/feighn dodge/tusk romp kept the old combat range. Its still pretty easy to trigger them by just walking a little bit closer to your target.

Even when I hump them it likes to not fire like half the time :cry:

maybe a bit offtopic but since the reason of this bug is caused by the new hit box, i notice that bears sometimes do double attacks when you fight them close range
