Fishing - random items appearing

Just started a new character for this world, and random crap keeps appearing in my inventory while fishing. So far: fresh tealeaves, raw fox meat, dead chicken... Did I miss some weird update?

stuff dropped in water ends up in global pool of items that can be fished and/or found on sand in a junk pile
