is it intentional that they decay even on claims/paving?

If they are unterminated, yes. Proper endpoints don't decay on claims.

I haven't seen decay on the headpoints, i'm talking on segments.

Could it be that the decay you noticed midpath had been applied with a sledgehammer?

No, it has not been destroyed by man/beast. it was Natural decay. Noticed it even inside village walls.
