Ants not giving combat moves?

I've finally started battling against ants and after a dozen combats not a single new move, is this normal or am I just special like that?

Ants seem to have a reduced chance to give anything period. I've experienced this myself.

Oh happy joy, guess I need to amp my game up to boat hunting and cliff hacking (eyeroll)

Given the low chance, I can't really say a rate, and I don't think that is a consensus from everyone yet. I've seen few people say they haven't had an issue.

Bats and fox are really easy to defeat. Grab one near a cave entrance or one of those new burrows and you can use the entrance to use recoveries for a few seconds before ducking in and attacking some more without the animal getting in any moves at all. The same will work for any animal, but these are the only two I've found that I can do it with so far without needing good armor.
