[not a bug] Broken lock?

So, I built my first Knarr today, and used a fresh lock on it right away...only to not get a key back. thinking it was in my keyring, I looked, nothing. I made the lock myself, did it do what my worst fears are and drop it in the water? I had several empty spaces in my invantory, and can't rekey the boat, cause I don't have the key. I don't have the rope, or tar, to build a new one. what do I do

Did you make the 'fresh lock' directly on site from a block, or did you bring it with you?
For the first: key should be in your keyring (in case you have one on you) or your inventory, for the latter the lock was most likely tuned to a master key that you didn't take with you.
