Horse despawning bug

So my i was playing with my friend few months ago, and my good fella was trying to tame horse. It was all nice, hitched to a pole. Friend was waiting for it to go into aggro. The problem is...the horse despawned. And it despawned five times. Five times he tried to tame this bad boy, and he even stayed online for the whole time. He left the game for only 1 minute, and...horse despawned once again.
Is this bug something everyone is living with, or are we really unlucky?

He was always hitching it to a pole with rope.

what does he do with the rope after he hitches the animal to post? i know if the rope is dropped to the floor then it becomes un hitched

He is hitching animal with rope in his inentory. Not equipped. In inventory.

It becomes unleashed when you get rid of the rope, but after hitching the rope doesn't play any further role.

strange, idk why it would despawn then?

There is a known bug by which hitched animals can sometimes despawn if the animal and the post are unfortunately on separate sides of the map grids. Might be it.

It was possibly this. We tried diffrent location and it worked.

Lesson learned: Dont tame in between grids.
