Last Carried not working properly in expired claim

Postby Leviwulf » Sun Feb 11, 2018 4:47 am

If you pick up an item in an expired claim, then drop it in an active claim you can't lift it back up without thieving. Had it happen with a boat, not sure if it's replicable with other objects
Step 1 : Find object in expired claim
Step 2 : Lift object
Step 3 : Place Object in non-expired claim
Step 4 : You can no longer lift the object without permissions

Yes, this was explicitly stated in the patch notes: The last carrier status is only set if you explicitly have permission to take things off the claim.

do you believe it is fair when the item is from an expired claim though? if a claim is abandoned then odds are, its owner doesnt even care anymore.

Neither do figuratively and literally.

Perhaps, perhaps not, but it's not a bug. There is also a difference in that, for example, the theft would still count if the claim were filled up with authority in the time between the carried object was lifted and the time it was carried off-claim, being different from if the object were picked up with permissions.

That sounds like (silly exaggeration) that the theft would also count in case someone activates a claim after you picked up something from it but are still in the affected area. That would be ex-post-facto...

IMHO a claim without presence shouldn't enforce permissions at all, thus lifting something should flag 'last carried' like on an unclaimed area.

Ah alright, I read the notes but didn't realize an expired claim still enforced permissions! Thanks for the quick response.

News to me, too!

Well, it doesn't "enforce permissions" in that you leave no scents on it. However, I'm also not sure it's the correct behavior that you can walk in on an inactive claim, quickly lift everything on it, and then come back two months later when the owner has come back and the claim is active again and walk off with the swag then.

That's a valid point.

Nevertheless, the side effect of not adding the flag is obscure and will certainly come unexpected to an unsuspecting user.

Solution could be to clear all 'last carried' flags of objects on the claim when it reactivates.

TBH, doesn't really matter. I think it works fine as is. As long as the claim is inactive, you can come and go and do as you please. It's worth noting that the claim still belongs to the owner, permissions are still in effect, and even though you don't have to use criminal acts or leave scents, it is still flagged as an activity counter to the claim permissions. People can work around it reasonable enough. The first post appears to be as much an edge case in the rules as anything. I'm assuming the "active claim" the item was laid down on was not owned by the character that dropped it, nor had theft permissions on that claim.
