Clipping Cave entrance in water =drowning

Postby Inqanton » Tue Mar 12, 2019 8:23 pm

About a half an hour ago My hearthling met a brutal end as he died by being stuck on the side of a cave entrance. Aradiel, unable to swim away after turning swimming on, enter the cave, or hop back up the cliff was, running out of stamina. So I logged him out waited a few minutes and logged back in hoping that he would be unstuck and could enter the cave or swim ect. Sadly he was dead and I was at the character creation screen. I don't know the exact coordinates as I cant go back there till my village mates log on. It was the water cave NW of the Village Campo Marsio in the south, -32,96 super-grid.

I can't say anything about the bug condition, unfortunately. What I can tell you is forcing a log out in "dangerous positions" leaves the character in the world. Dangerous positions include combat, swimming, red handed, and other possible conditions and states where death is an immediate chance or risk.

I should add: to be sure you don't log out in a bad position, use the option menu selections for "switch character," "log out," or the console command ":act lo". These should check to make sure it is safe to log out before disconnecting you from the server.

I understand but since I was already in the water and and unable to move in any direction with my stamina bar depleting I was going to be dead in 20 seconds or so... so I did what I could to try and save my hearthling. Thank you though I appreciate the intent to help. I am reporting the bug of the cave edge clipping my character and not allowing it to move while holding me in the water. Not the fact that I logged out to try and dislodge my hearthling.

To get this right: you jumped down the cliff, near the cave entrance, into deep water?

I read this as: he exited a cave directly into deep water and was unable to use swimming.

So you jumped down over a cave, down into the water? Not sure I understand the situation.

There are still some cave entraces that leads to a deep water. Once you exit through such entrace you cannot do anything, only option is try to get to a shore if you have enough CON. You cannot travel to HF nor enter a cave. This is frustrating a lot, at least you should allow to enter cave back.

I've went in caves that have entrance in deep water. In this world, jumped off boat, swam in cave, went around there, came back out, got back on boat, went away.
Ofcourse, not having the swimming skill complicates things, so yeah, get that.

Correct I was trying to swim into the cave. This is something I have done out forageing many times before, but this time my hearthling got caught on edge of the cave as I jumped down.
I was unable to move, and treading water.

I had a full stamina bar.
I had the swimming skill.
I tried to enter the cave, but was stuck, tried to swim away, but was stuck.
I tried to hop back up the cliff, but was still stuck.
Finally as a last act of desperation I tried to log off to see if it would have me be unstuck and not drowning, but that is not the important part.

I am a bit frustrated about this death. I don't mind dieing to a bear, a player, drowning to a boat breaking in the ocean, ect... but dying to getting stuck on the environment and being held in place while in the water is a rough one.
I have played since world 3 I think. I am not a forum poster. When tragedy falls in this game you suck it up and move on, but this time I died to a bug so I thought I'd report it so that someone might look at cave edges. Every other time I have done this, I hopped down onto a small sliver of land turned on swimming and casually swam into the cave but this time I was apparently to close to the cave entrance and was immediately swimming and stuck.
